New picture added!

1:00 p.m. I know that I already said that the doctors wanted Lynne to walk around yesterday but we had a minor setback. It seems there was a small issue with her epidural when it first went in for the surgery. So whenever she sits up or stands for more than a few minutes, she gets a major headache. So, they revised the schedule a little to allow for an extra day of bedrest. Of course, because of this, her back has been bothering her too. She will be a much happier camper once she can begin moving about. The NG tube is also scheduled to come out today; this one wasn't quite as miserable as the first.

Yonah is continuing to do well. I expect today should be her last day of fun in the sun. The blue lights they have been keeping her under for bilirubin (very typical for 29 weekers) have been doing their job, and she probably will not be needing any more time under them.

November 10, 2005

This afternoon we got some news from the surgeon and other doctors about the pathology report. First, some good news. The 'margins' of the tissue and cancer that they removed indicate that they got everything out. For now, this means that there is probably no cancer in Lynne's system. The rest of the story isn't exactly what we had hoped for. The report indicates that this cancer did, in fact, originate from the pancreas. We were all so hopeful that it started at the duodenum, but that just isn't the case. Because this is now being called pancreatic cancer, this means that we will be sitting down with the oncologist to try to formulate a game plan. I guess that there is no exact science concerning the best possible way to proceed from here. We will be talking about what options Lynne has for treatment as well as how each of these different methods varies in side-effects and how they would impact her quality of life. The trouble with pancratic cancer, it seems, is that it usually involves the lymph nodes. Her cancer had invaded some of the lymph nodes in the organs they removed. Because these cancer cells are so insidious, they often spread into surrounding tissues and don't rear their ugly heads until later on. There is no way to predict where it might spread to and no way to detect its presence if and when it does.

It's getting to be about the time I told Lynne I would return to see her. For now, let's just say that we will find the strength to fight this together.

Helllloooo Yonahhh!!! At 11:22 a.m. yesterday, Lynne gave birth to our beautiful daughter Yonah. She did have to do a Caeserian delivery since little Yo-Yo kept flip-flopping around and wouldn't cooperate by keeping her pretty head down. She is doing great. We are able to visit her around the clock and eventually will be able to bring some visitors in to see her. Lynne is feeling very happy and has some minor to moderate discomfort, mostly around the incision. We hope that as the day goes on she will be able to get out of bed and take some steps.

We are renting an apartment near the hospital. Toni (Lynne's mom) and Abigail will be staying there with me and once released from the hospital, so will Lynne. We will need to stay down in Boston for some time since the baby and Lynne will be receiving post-operative care for some time.

Worth mentioning is the fact that through this whole ordeal, Lynne has actually been feeling pretty well. Other than some nausea from a brief attempt at drinking clear liquids for a few days, that has been the extent of her physical discomfort.

Many of you have asked about how Abigail has been doing through this all. Because she is so close with her grandparents Toni, Glenn, Sue and Harold, and because they have assumed, at times, the roles of primary caregivers to her, she has been doing great, considering all that she has had to deal with. She is a very independent 19 month old who loves the affection and attention she is given by her extended family. Some of the blessings we count through this odyssey include the love, care and support they have provided us with. Thank you so much; words can never express how much we appreciate your help.
